No.1 Our plant

Rudi’s friend Max had given us a lovely plant, and we were all enjoying watching it grow. So we decided to investigate and study plants.

First, we talked about what we already knew about plants. We named all the separate parts –

  • the stem
  • the petals
  • the leaves.. and
  • the pollen

We read stories about plants, and acted out the growing stages from seed to flower. Rudi and his friends had a lot of fun creating still life representations of Max’s plant.

We used mathematical thinking to count the petals, and measure the height of the flower each week.

Rudi and his classmates were responsible for watering the plant, which gave them a sense of caring for a living thing themselves.
