We were all singing along to The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine when Nathan asked “What’s a submarine?” This led us to begin a full scale submarine investigation.

To start the project we all went home and collected as much information about submarines as we could find. The next day, we shared books, fact sheets, photographs and even some DVDs about submarines and what they can do.

We learnt that submarines can go on top of the water as well as under the water, that they have a special telescope called a periscope and there are many types of submarine. Some can go very deep and some are very fast.

We read stories about submarines and acted out a submarine diving under water. Nathan and his friends had a lot of fun creating an underwater world with blue paint, sand, paper and some little ships and submarines.
