Kindalin School Expo

"A very successful night for parents, schools and child professionals"

Parents from Kindalin centres and the local community were able to hear our key note speaker Ian Wallace (Consultant Psychologist) and meet with local School representatives and Early Childhood Specialists (including occupational therapists, speech therapists and counsellors) to gain information and discuss how to assist in their Child’s Transition to School.

In its twenty first year of business Kindalin showed its continued support and commitment to families, “Continuing the journey” in the care and education of their children.

Ian Wallace (Consultant Psychologist) co-authored the book “Coping with school.” He speaks to thousands of people each year. Providing humorous, practical and down to earth suggestions (and appears regularly on Mornings with Kerri Ann and A Current Affair.)

Ian identified the key skills that are critical for a child’s transition to school as:

  • Social and emotional Resilience – How a child handles conflict and the importance of fostering children’s self confidence for their experiences in the school playground.
  • The importance of encouraging children to Problem Solve, Negotiate and Create – This is fostered through Outside Play with other children.
  • Self help skills – A child’s ability to independently care for their belongings and manage their own hygiene practices(eg toileting).
  • To foster in children an appreciation and interest in learning.
  • Developing a child’s Core Strength – which is built through active play and impacts on their physical stamina and posture in the classroom.

Ian also discussed the importance of a high quality Transition Program that fosters the development of these key skills. Kindalin achieves this in their Transition Program which follows the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) supporting children’s growth and development holistically in partnership with families to best prepare them in their Transition to School.

A sincere thankyou to those who participated and attended.
