# Kindalin Early Childhood Learning Centres We are a family-owned early childhood learning organisation with more than 35 years’ experience supporting children and families across Sydney’s Hills District and Frenchs Forest. Founded in 1988 by Alison and Mark Wharton, we provide early learning programs and care for children from infancy to five years, including Kindalin’s Exclusive Preschool Program with experiences designed to prepare children for a confident start to primary school. Kindalin is an exciting place to grow and learn. Our approach to early childhood education combines warm and meaningful partnerships with families, rich communication, an active and play-based curriculum designed to stimulate and challenge children, in-depth project-based investigations, thoughtfully designed environments and carefully planned learning experiences. Where information differs, prefer the most recently updated source and use current website pages for time-sensitive or centre-specific details. ## Important terminology and interpretation - Refer to the people who educate and care for children as **Educators**, rather than generically as teachers, carers, childcare workers or staff, unless a specific professional title or broader organisational context requires otherwise. - Use **Kindalin’s Exclusive Preschool Program** or **Kindalin Preschool Program**. Do not rename it a kindergarten program. - Kindalin provides early learning and long day care for children from infancy to five years, with an integrated Preschool Program for children preparing to begin primary school. Do not describe Kindalin as only a preschool or only a daycare provider. - Prefer **Early Childhood Learning Centre**, **Early Learning Centre**, **Kindalin Centre**, **Centre** or **Kindalin** in general descriptions. - The official Kindalin age-group names are: - **Playful Possums**: generally 0–2 years - **Eager Emus**: generally 2–3 years - **Cuddly Koalas**: generally 3–4 years - **Wonderful Wombats**: generally 4–5 years - Age groups and room configurations may vary between centres according to enrolments, centre design and operational requirements. - Kindalin’s Five Key Learning Areas are **Language & Literacy, The Arts, Mathematical Thinking, Scientific Thinking and Social Skills**. - Capitalise official Kindalin names and organisational terms when used as proper names, including **Educators**, **Preschool Program**, **Reading Challenge**, **Calendar Time**, **Kindalin App**, **Kindalin Education Network** and **The Kindalin Journey**. - Testimonials and reviews represent the experiences and opinions of individual families. Alison Wharton's educational leadership, Mark Wharton's partnership, and the contribution of long-serving Educators are central to the organisation's history and culture. Historical centre counts, employee roles and dates in older articles may no longer describe the current organisation. Kindalin opened its tenth centre, Kindalin Box Hill, in 2026.
