Our Eager Emus outdoor area is shared with our Cuddly Koalas, 3–4-year-old children. This mixed play area allows children to take on leadership roles and assists our Emus in transitioning to the Koalas Room when the time comes, as they are already familiar with the Educators, children and outdoor spaces.
Different activities are set up daily, based on the curriculum plan that the Room Coordinators have written. The curriculum is an extension of the children’s development and interests, which includes family input and extending on the goals of each individual child.

Small objects and manipulative resources can include natural resources such as rocks and shells or objects that can be used for counting, sorting and art activities.
Compared to the Emus Room, pencils and crayons are always out and available for children as they have now learnt to put things back after themselves.

Koalas ‘Reaching for the Stars’ – In each of our rooms you will find a display related to the children’s goals. At our annual Coffee Night information evenings, parents share their goals for their child so that Educators can work with them towards the same goals!

Interest-Based Learning Example: This ‘Train Station Active Learning Environment’ was created when an interest sparked from a child showing a photo (delivered in the Kindalin Postbox) from their visit to the dinosaur exhibition. This discussion revealed the child caught a train to the exhibit and the interest escalated from there!
These pictures are of other examples of interest-based learning areas that have sparked in the Emus Room, including the Vet!

In this room, we begin to introduce additional activities and routines into the children’s day, such as toilet training and progressive morning tea. Toilet training is encouraged by the Educators, who work with families and assist from Kindalin to home. Progressive morning tea allows children to gain independence by deciding to eat when they are hungry whilst playing, with the guidance of their Educators!
Lockers are also introduced, where children are encouraged to find their name tag and place it on a locker for the day to keep their belongings. This helps with name recognition, sense of belonging, self-help skills and feeling safe and secure!

Here you can see our Family Holiday Wall on display. Each year, families share images and information on their Christmas holidays to share in the room. Family partnerships are an important part of our Kindalin philosophy, as we believe strong connections with home and Kindalin provide the best learning environment for the children.
The Holiday Wall provides children with something familiar in the room, welcomes new topics of discussion and fosters a connection with families which continues throughout the year.

Reading is an integral part of our growing and learning from Possums, right through to our Wombats! Here we have a free flow reading area available for Koalas and Wombats, in a quiet area, for them to go and recharge by reading a book quietly or with their friends.

As part of our Kindalin Preschool Program, our Wombats (ages 4-5) sign in themselves each morning by writing their name and put on their own sunscreen before finding their name tag and choosing a locker for the day! Our exclusive Preschool Program helps prepare final year preschoolers for that next step – primary school, developing their emotional intelligence by engaging and challenging four to five year old children while helping them become more confident and independent in a social learning environment!

Our Wonderful Wombats (ages 4-5) begin their transition to school with the Kindalin Preschool Program, though active exploration and interactive learning experiences children are provided with the skills for primary school! Our main focus is for them to be socially and emotionally ready for school, implemented through the curriculum plan.
Each year, we hold a very special graduation for our Wombats heading to primary school, where we celebrate all of their growing and learning as well as show mum and dad their independence and confidence as we perform our favourite songs.

Welcome to our Wonderful Wombats’ Home Corner, the first of our 3 level Wombats Room! Similar to our other rooms, here children can explore their identities and their own worlds through role play; dressing in outfits and taking on roles such as mum and dad. They may go shopping, set up the dinner table or even be an Educator at school, it is all up to their imagination!
Dramatic play allows them to learn social skills and develop their own understandings of their world and their identity.

At the beginning of each year, families complete an ‘All About Me’ page for their child, that introduces the child and is often placed in the room. From here, a variety of activities take place that encourage children to learn more about each other as well as learn about similarities and differences between themselves and their friends in the room. Welcome to our Eager Emus Room! Our Emus are our children ages 2 – 3 years old. As we do in all of our rooms, this Emus room is set up to provide children with a variety of learning spaces for flow play – indoor and outdoor play. Learning spaces are always adapted according to children’s interests and family input.
We also incorporate a writing centre and exploratory sensory program to extend on their inquisitiveness!

Our top Possums Room is another area for indoor play, with a range of learning areas set up for flow play! Learning areas provide opportunities for children to learn Kindalin’s 5 Key Learning Areas (Language & Literacy, Mathematical Thinking, The Arts, Scientific Thinking, Social Skills) through play and topics of interest. For example, here the Construction Zone has incorporated a truck transport area, based on children taking interest in seeing trucks on the road during their outdoor play. The Construction Zone encourages Mathematical and Scientific Thinking when constructing and counting blocks as well as experimenting with construction.

This is our Kindalin Post Box! We invite families to post letters and photos to their children in the postbox, which are then picked up and delivered to the children by the ‘Kindalin Postie’ at Calendar Time each day. This is a great way to build a connection between Kindalin and home, support children’s literacy understanding as well as introduce new topics for discussion!

Welcome to the lower Possums Room! Our entire Possums space consists of the lower and upper room as well as a beautiful outdoor area, where we accommodate to 20 children, 0 – 2 years, in the care of 5 Educators. Throughout our Centre, you will find that activity areas and learning spaces are set up based on the children’s interests as well as their age. This room is particularly set up with low furniture for those babies learning to walk, so they can easily pull themselves up, as well as soft cuddly resources and sensory items for the younger babies.

Behind this blue curtain is our rest time room, where we provide an opportunity for relaxing rest time for the children, based on their own needs for rest. This may depend on age and home routines, meaning Possums may have additional rest times in the morning as well as time to rest in the afternoon. The children absolutely love sleeping in the hammocks, whilst others are in cots.
Our Kindalin App for parents provides you with logged information on your child’s routine in the Possums Room, including nappy change, eating and rest time periods!

Family communication is crucial to achieving the best environment for your child. At Kindalin, we communicate with our families via face-to-face chats with your child’s Educators, emails, our Kindalin App and notices in our Foyer – including this Kindalin Calendar! You will find all upcoming events on this calendar in the foyer each month, as well as receive reminders via your app and emails.
The Kindalin App keeps you in touch with your child’s day - their upcoming events and notices, room adventures, photos of the action, their eating log, bi-monthly observations of your child specifically and communication with the Director!

Our Wonderful Wombats (ages 4-5) begin their transition to school with the Kindalin Preschool Program, though active exploration and interactive learning experiences children are provided with the skills for primary school! Our main focus is for them to be socially and emotionally ready for school, implemented through the curriculum plan.
Each year, we hold a very special graduation for our Wombats heading to primary school, where we celebrate all of their growing and learning as well as show mum and dad their independence and confidence as we perform our favourite songs.

Children are often immersed in art activities throughout the day that may be based on topics they have been discussing, observational art based on a project/artist study, an interest from home or spontaneous art where children choose to explore themselves.
At Kindalin, we believe in child-led learning and allowing children to make their own interpretations of the world around them through exploring and investigating. For this reason, you won’t find a print-out picture for children to colour in. It’s not about colouring in the lines, it’s about the own interpretation of the lines!

Upon arrival drop-off and pick-up, our families sign in their children on our iPads, where they use a unique pin code. Each parent/guardian has their own separate pin code, so that we have an exact record who is picking up and dropping off! This also records data for the government Child Care Subsidy.

Every child has their own portfolio that is worked on throughout the year. It documents your child’s learning journey at Kindalin and includes their artworks, photos of their learning and achievements, project work, family contribution from throughout the year and the observations written by your child’s Educator about their growing and learning. Welcome to Kindalin Glenhaven! Our doors are open to our Kindalin families from 7am through to 6.30pm, Monday – Friday. Families are able to access the centre with their very own ‘fob’ key, which they swipe at the door to open. The centre otherwise remains locked and secure for the day and only accessed by paging our doorbell and being welcomed in by staff.

Our creek and boardwalk is one of the children’s favourite areas of the top yard! The luscious green area welcomes children to walk along the boardwalk and explore the creek which flows with water trickling throughout. Children can explore the water and the natural environment, conduct science experiments, create wet and dry chalk drawings and often go ‘fishing’ in their dramatic play. It is also a great sensory activity walking through the water!
