Reading Challenge 2017 update : Kindalin ~* Early Childhood Learning Centres

Reading Challenge 2017 update

Kindalin’s seventh Annual Reading Challenge launched full steam ahead, generating an abundance of literacy explorations throughout Kindalin.

We look forward to hearing from our families about their participation, from home in the Kindalin Reading Challenge. The first check-in week will be from the 5 – 9 June. We ask that all children bring in their Reading Logs so we can record how many books have been read so far. Please read on to see what’s happened and what else we have planned.

Special Visitor to Kindalin…

Miss Laurel (a former school librarian) visited Kindalin centres to read a selection of stories to the Wonderful Wombats children and discussing her important role as a librarian at a school. One of the stories she read was “Parsley Rabbit’s Book about Books” by Frances Watts. This entertaining story introduces the children to the world of books including the cover, title page, formats and style – all though the main character “Parsley Rabbit.”

We look forward to Miss Laurel’s visits each month and her selection of stories to share as part of this year's Reading Challenge.

Book Sharing and Storytelling…

The Wonderful Wombats children have been sharing their favourite story with their friends at Kindalin throughout May. Bringing their favourite book from home, the children have enthusiastically described their favourite story events, with many then retelling these through their own detailed illustrations. It’s wonderful to see the children’s emerging literacy understanding and development.

National Simultaneous Storytime is this Wednesday 24th May at 11am.

The children and educators will read the story “The Cow Tripped over the Moon,” by Tony Wilson and Laura Wood at 11am. This will occur simultaneously throughout all Kindalin centres, as well as libraries, schools, family homes and bookshops around Australia. The children have been counting down to this day on the calendar and are looking forward to this event.
